Spokes America 2018
Who we are
Spokes America is a six-year-old program that brings MIT students cycling across the country, teaching students in middle America to engage with the scientific world around them. Along the way, the Spokes team hosts learning festivals at schools, libraries, museums, and summer camps, encouraging children from across the country to engage with the scientific world around them.
What Spokes does
Since its inception in 2013, Spokes America has journeyed to small rural towns like Hazard, Kentucky, and Newton, Kansas. Past years have all successfully completed their journeys across the country, and this year's team is just as ambitious as the last: along the way, we hope to continue a tradition of documenting our experience in small towns and big cities alike, sharing the experience of what it means to be an athletic and active engineer.
Funds raised will serve to further our dream of encouraging children to follow theirs. We hope to enable young people across the country to better realize their own creative problem-solving potential, connect teachers to new teaching resources for science and technology, and challenge stereotypes about what it means to be an engineer. Funds will be spent on purchasing educational supplies, acquiring the necessities for our journey like food, bikes, and camping equipment. In helping us to complete our journey, the grant will enable us to spread our passion for STEM to students from all over the country.
In donating to Spokes 2018, you'll help us teach students all across the USA that STEM isn't out of their reach.
