MIT MITES Class of 1990

Celebrate the legacy of MITES 1990

Many MITES classes claim to be the best. This is your chance to secure MITES 1990 the top spot, reconnect with your classmates, and empower future MITES classes in the process.

Who can reconnect with the most alumni? Which class can meet their dollars donated goal? Which class can get 40 % participation? How will the class of 1990 stack up to the other classes? Who will earn the right to call themselves “The Best”?

MITES

Since 1975, Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science (MITES) has provided transformative experiences for academically promising high school seniors, many of whom come from underrepresented or underserved communities. This six-week, residential summer program gives students the opportunity to experience a demanding academic atmosphere and to build the self-confidence necessary for success in science and engineering.

Impact

MITES alumni go to top-tier colleges and universities across the country and become successful scientists, engineers, professors, doctors, startup founders, and much more. Since its inception, MITES has served over 2,200 students, of whom over 35 percent have matriculated at MIT and over 80 percent have majored in technical fields.

What your support will do

Your support will allow the MITES Program to serve talented students free of charge. While MIT provides funding and in-kind support to MITES, about 85 percent of the annual budget comes from supporters of MITES like you. Costs rise each year due to inflation and increased efforts to more fully support MITES students and alumni. Your support will provide inspiring instructors, housing, food, challenging curriculum, fun excursions, lab materials, and other necessities to serve these students for six weeks and beyond.

In addition, your efforts in reaching out to “lost” classmates will help us re-engage all alumni, connect classmate, and strengthen the MITES network.

$500

Engineering Materials

A gift at this level purchases supplies and materials for engineering courses. For example, it buys a class set of Raspberry Pi credit-card sized computers for the Electronics elective course, which students will use to build innovative projects beyond the scope of high school coursework.

$750

Class Lunch with Special Guest

A gift at this level funds a seminar lunch with a special guest speaker. Past speakers have included MIT professors and deans, industry engineers and scientists, and MITES alumni.

$1,000

A Day at the Beach
