About This Campaign
Former SEVT member and MIT Alum, Pete Augenbergs ’05, has pledged $5,000 once this crowdfund effort reaches $5,000. Please help us secure this challenge gift and reach our $12,000 goal.
MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team
MIT’s Solar Electric Vehicle Team (SEVT) is building our FIRST Multi-occupancy vehicle (Gemini), powered solely by the sun, to compete in the American Solar Challenge (ASC) in the summer of 2024! Currently, we are moving from the design phase to manufacturing for the mechanical and electrical subteams, and have built and integrated our composite aeroshell, chassis, and welded roll cage, with the goal of having a rolling car by the end of fall semester.
Over MIT’s Independent Activities Period (IAP) in January, we are traveling to Ford’s Wind Tunnel to test the aerodynamic efficiency of our vehicle and determine our angle of attack. This testing trip is crucial for us to compare our manufactured vehicle’s aeroshell exterior to the intended design, understand how to optimize vehicle performance, and set operations parameters. We need your help to make it happen!
Adopt-a-Cell!
Our car is powered through the collection of solar energy using our solar array! It has 322 cells which take up 5 m2 of space on the top of Gemini! With a donation of $50, you can adopt one of these solar cells! Adoption benefits include having a name or phrase of your choosing associated with a cell (which will be displayed on our website), a subscription to our team newsletter, and a picture of our car once it's complete! Please fill out this form when you Adopt-a-Cell!
How your support is helping SEVT
Gifts to our Wind Tunnel crowdfunding campaign will be used for both technical and logistics purposes. Machining, purchasing, and integrating all components necessary to make the car roll is ongoing, so funds raised would go toward metal stock, electrical equipment, sourced components like polycarbonate, and more! In addition, we will need to fund the trip, including renting vehicles and hotels to get to Detroit, Michigan!
We appreciate any support you can provide! Our team has a strong dedication to completing Gemini and is excited to Blow You Away with the progress we’ll make up to and during the Wind Testing Tunnel Trip!! We can’t wait for you to join us on our journey to the open roads and sunny skies, as MIT SEVT races toward the starting line.
