Taekwondo 2024–25 National Collegiate Championship

Who are we?

MIT Sport Taekwondo is the largest and most competitive martial arts group on campus. Founded in 2000, this academic year marks our 25th competitive season. From our humble beginning training white belts on the grimy floors of the McCormick dining hall, we’ve since graduated hundreds of home-grown black belts, honed by our strong culture of community, competitive spirit, and excellence. 

Our team has a deep-rooted history that reaches far beyond the campus of MIT. Our students and alumni have gone on to compete at the Olympics, represent Team USA at World and Pan-American championships, and found collegiate teams of their own across the country. With your support, MIT Sport Taekwondo will continue its impact.

Why are we raising money?

We believe every student should have access to the incredible community of MIT Sport Taekwondo without any financial pressure. Thanks to the generous donations from friends, family, and alumni through the years, MIT Sport Taekwondo has always shielded students from the bulk of competition costs. Without this support, most students would not be able to participate. But in recent years, we’ve experienced a shortfall in funding, primarily due to tournament transportation costs doubling in the last decade. Not only that, but transportation and housing for NCTA championships have also been rising steadily. So we’re asking you for a gift to keep MIT Sport Taekwondo accessible to all students, regardless of their personal circumstances. 

Your gift will cover:

• $45: one student’s registration fees for one tournament
• $80: Daedo Gen2 E-Socks for any member of the club to train with
• $225: one student’s registrations fees for all five tournaments of the year
• $700: one student’s trip to nationals in an average year
• $1,000: the entire team’s transportation costs to an away tournament

Supporters will receive the following as a thank you!

• $80 or more: embroidered cap or water bottle with our team logo
• $300 or more: Adidas MIT-printed dobak OR a commemorative 25th anniversary polo
• $800 or more: MIT Sport Taekwondo Patagonia fleece jacket

All supporters will get a personalized thank you from the team. But the top ten supporters will also receive a grand mystery prize and public recognition!
